Today I did my shoot, I used my mum as a model and had to work out how to build a black background. I used different lengths of fabric to create my black floor and chair. I also put a black sheer fabric over a lamp to dim it. I didn’t leave the lamp on too long or it would’ve caused a fire... I think the shoot was quite successful, I used props and tried different compositions. I also took some videos so I can make a short film if I want to. I don’t have premier pro at home though so I will have to wait to edit the film.

I built the cloud cut outs for my set today, in total I built 3. I haven’t finished painting them yet. I need to work out how to make them stand up and how to attach the smaller one to someone’s head. There is also the issue of finding a model because I can’t use myself as I need to take the images I could use one of my friends or my mother if she isn’t too busy.

I had my progress tutorial today. My tutor approved of my plan and work so far. I will continue as planned but first carry out some more research as I was told I didn’t have enough.

Today I thought about how to expand my project, I have chosen a pink 60s dress that is floaty and have decided to create a playful set. I will need to consider how to build the different elements of my set including materials to build the main components because I want to make clouds. I could use cardboard cut outs, Cotton wool, stuffing or fabric.

During my group crit we discussed the photographs I had taken of my shoe set. There was a varied response to each image, some preferred the white, unfiltered images, others liked the bright red, bleached out images and others preferred the blue, calmer images. I think they are successful for different images and people’s opinions come down to personal taste. The red images were bold and bright as were the blue images except you can see the shoe more clearly in the blue images. The white images were simple and they were true to the shoes nature; however, some people thought it was more exciting to have more dimension and colours. I think the one that works best, in my opinion, is the image where I put red acetate over the light so the image has red and blue light on it. They are subtle hues and so don’t dominate the image whilst also creating dimension from the two colours.

Today we built the set for our shoes. I struggled to settle on one idea as each had its challenges. Ideally I would’ve tried more than one but due to limited time I just did one. I started with the base, I would like to remake the base if I ever revisit the shoe set because the shoe was too low down when placed on the prop.
